“Deep State or Deep S..t”
Having exercised considerable restraint over the past few weeks so as not to comment publicly on our inane president, I find myself constrained now to say a few words about the latest debacle emerging out of the Trump White House and the equally inept Republican leadership in Congress of both houses. My latest addition to compromised politicians is the Chair of the House Intelligence committee, Devin Nunes, who jumps at Trump’s every crazy whim. He is now at the top of my list of dangerous politicians.
John McCain, who is one of the more intelligent Republican Senators, commented today that the release of the secret memo criticizing the FBI and the Justice Department, released by President Trump is a way to “do Putin’s work for him.” Citing evidence which is publicly convincing of the Russian influence in the last Presidential election of 2016, Senator McCain decries the attack on both the FBI, the Justice Department and Mueller’s investigation of the Russian influence in the election, saying President Trump is using political motivations to attack the very institutions which can provide real clarity of truth to the American public.
Unfortunately, according to recent news articles, some 50% of the American public believes in some type of conspiracy theory that politicians and some American institutions of government are actively working to undermine the political processes of the US government. Take about lunacy! We are approaching new levels of madness in this country. When everybody trusts nobody, can any effective governing occur? President Trump came to Washington, he said, “to drain the swamp.” Instead he is digging a deeper and deeper hole of mistrust, paranoia and insane governance and filling it with his own inane tweets!
As I have said previously, is there anyone in this country who trusts anything this President utters? He makes chaos in his wake! After delivering what many felt was an acceptable, albeit highly politicized State of the Union address, he now releases a most controversial memo which even those who saw it in the original form say what is released is a carefully redacted version not even complete with all the facts, but only those parts which are designed to show the FBI in a poor light. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan says this is not about sabotaging the Mueller Russian investigation. But the same day, President Trump tweets to his supporters this is his exact plan to use it to discredit Mueller. Now which of these men who are both Republican leaders do we believe? In this case, in the current politicized Washington DC, it is more likely that President Trump is telling the truth. However, it is equally likely that in a few days Trump will declare his own speech to be “fake news” since he will deny ever uttering such an incriminating statement, which is likely to undermine his own Presidency, not the reputation of the FBI and Department of Justice.
It is a strange President and an even stranger man who will attack the very institutions he has sworn to protect swearing on the Holy Bible at the inauguration of his Presidency. Bizarre! Bizarre! Bizarre! This is truly bizarre for any President to do such unless this man truly is guilty of some particular crime and is trying to deflect the investigation into his own actions. As the famous Pogo says, we have searched and searched for the enemy and, lo, “It is us!” In this case the “us” is President Trump and the wholly dysfunctional Republican administration, House and Senate.
Most of the American public is not so naïve as to not realize that politics is a rather dirty business and politicians are often compromised by graft in their pursuit of power. We recently know of a petty Republican senator from Louisiana who punished the political process when one or several of his appointees were not admitted to the Federal Reserve governing body under President George Bush, but instead President Obama managed to put his candidates in their places. Why is the current Federal Reserve chair (a highly qualified woman) being replaced by a Republican dark horse? Well, this is politics, of course, and led by a Republican senator from Louisiana! A Nobel Prize winner in economics is not suitable for the Federal Reserve governing body, but a Republican dark horse is better. Forget that this new board chair may later destabilize the US Stock Market, (hopefully not!), but God help us, this senator will have his way!
We all know these type of things happen all the time in American politics, particularly in the current seriously divided and dysfunctional government in Washington, DC. But what President Trump and Representative Devin Nunes have done is approaching reprehensible! This is highly politicized politics to protect the Presidents ass! Nancy Pelosi, Minority leader in the Senate is right to call for the removal of Numes as chair of the House Intelligence Committee. This man has proven himself to be nothing more than a political stooge of President Trump. If an attempt is made to remove Mueller from his investigation of Russian collusion in the 2016 election by the Trump White House or other Republicans, it will provoke a constitutional crisis of government, not seen since Watergate, according to several leaders of the Democrats.
Hopefully, all this latest news will prove to be nothing more than a grand tempest in a teapot! This is why I have refrained from commenting on much of the stupid remarks of this President. I have instead endeavored to pray for him to gain wisdom from God to govern this wonderful and diverse nation. Franklin Graham has called this President “a work in progress.” God, we all hope so. All any reasonable person wants is good governance of this our great nation. So far, however, many of us have been terribly disappointed and genuine fearful for the things which yet may come upon this nation….
Bill W. The voice of one crying in this wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a highway for our God!”
I am so grateful that God our Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ and the divine workings of the Holy Spirit of God the Father and God the Son rules and overrules in all the affairs of the children of men, his wonders and his will to perform!
“Amen and Amen!” “Lord our God, let us know the truth of all these matters, and we will rejoice and be glad in your Holy Name! “Surely, the presence of the Lord is somewhere in this place!”
Let all of God’s people say, “Amen!” “Amen! We praise and glorify your name, Lord Jesus Christ!”
