Taxation Without Representation

“Taxation Without Representation”

If our illustrative President attempts to impose tariffs on Mexico in his misguided attempt to stop all emigration from Mexico into this country, he will be sorely disappointed.  First, such a misguided policy will not work.  Mexico has neither the means nor the manpower to enforce it.  Second, corruption is so endemic in Mexico, it will take years to change the culture of graft allowing organized crime to flourish and charge fees to transport emigrants to the US border.  Such a misguided policy will also likely wreck NAFTA and the new agreement cobbled out by the administration to replace it.  Further, the cost to the American consumer could be enormous, according to news reports this evening.  This president, who I now call “He who shall not be named”, takes the quick approach to all policies. He has no patience for discussion, knows nothing of diplomacy and accepts no advice from anyone except Fox TV News.   This shows his basic misunderstanding of how governments across the globe deal with each other in drafting carefully worded agreements.  With this man in charge, there is no need for diplomacy.  We have a dictator who behaves like an idiot instead.  This policy of placing tariffs for the cause of limiting immigration will violate NAFTA, and the world trade agreements already in place governing trade between our nations.

Is this man unbalanced?  His misguided attempts to blunt force policy negotiations by using his Presidential powers to impose tariffs to accomplish policy better done by diplomacy will one day blow up in his face.  If Mexico decides to not slow the emigration of desperate persons seeking a new life, the border could be truly flooded with persons seeking asylum in the USA.  This President accepts no guidance, knows no counsel, but attempts to bluster and fluster his way through negotiations affecting millions around the globe.  He should indeed be removed from office on the basis of incompetency, if for no other reason.  Who cares if he has committed crimes?  Obviously we all do.  But to allow this misguided fool to wreck our democracy and our economy in little more than 2 years borders on lunacy!  Is there no one who can provide checks on his profane personality and personal whims of government?  Why is this type of behavior allowed in our President?  Not preventing this type of behavior in office borders on insanity, both his for doing his acts of lunacy and ours for allowing this to occur without checks and balances.  This man is out of control and should be removed from office.   When he starts the next war with someone, we have only ourselves to blame!  This man in office is one of the greatest challenges to have ever affected our democracy!  Is there anyone who can do anything about this crisis of government?  So far, I have seen nothing but talk.  The time for action is now, but who will take it?  Upon this simple question hangs the future of our republic.  When the history of this period of the United States government if finally written what will be said?  Will we rise to this occasion and triumph over this adversity or will we sit upon our hands and do nothing?  Speaking as a concerned citizen….
