“Trump’s Drivel”

A reasonable person must wonder how in the greatest nation on earth we have elected a leader as illiterately poor as Mr. Trump.  I will cease to address this man as President, as he has no more leadership abilities than an 4^th grader and less comprehension of history than a person living alone in a cabin in the Mojave Desert!  I have never imagined that such drivel could come from the mouth of one of our elected politicians.  Witness Mr. Trump’s speech today at the United Nations!  On which planet has he come from?  Do we really wish to harken back to the 1930s and emulate Hitler in his rise to power, based on the homeland, patriotism and racism?  My God in heaven, where did you find such an individual to act as if he is the leader of our nation?

The speech by Iran’s leader Hassan Rhouhani, 7^th president of the Iranian so-called republic made more sense in the world stage today than our president.  He at least cites the norms of international law.  He also manages to portray the United States as the bully, as the agent of destabilization of the Middle East, and as the obstructionist towards Middle East peace.  It was a masterful speech, especially after our so-called President entertained the whole United Nations with his abject vanity, narcissism and prideful ignorant boasting.  Trump’s claims to greatness are so foolish that any reasonable person must laugh, if we were not also terrified that this madman is in a leadership position of what has been once the greatest nation in the free world.

Trump’s rejection of the democratic world order to be replaced by nation states who are bound only by tribal patriotism, self-interest and power stands in stark contrast to Francois Mitterrand’s global vision of cooperation and freedom! The fact that Trump embraces Kim Jong Un of North Korea more than our ally Germany as one of “the friendly nations” is as calculating as it is bizarre.  Given the choice, which nation would you wish to live in?

This is a strange, strange world we live in and the politics of this time in our history are as bizarre as they are dangerous!  Would to God we could all wake up from this Alice in Wonderland nightmare and find in the morning is was only a dream!  I fear we are marching into dark times, dark seasons, into visions as strange as Nostradamus of the ending of the days.  God help us!  God help us all!

A Prayer:

O Lord, our Lord, God and Savior of the Universe, hear our prayers and save us in this season!  Liberate us from the madness which has descended upon our world in this man called Donald Trump.  Bring us once again into reasonable government led by reasonable and trustworthy people.  Purge this sickness which is darkness and not light from the midst of us!  Set our feet once again into the green pastures.  Lead us by the still waters.  Restore the soul of this once great nation.  Make us great again by ridding us of this president, lest we continue to be poisoned by his rhetoric of hatred, division and pride.  O God, in your mercy, bring healing upon us.  Feed us once again with the Bread of Life.  Let us drink deeply of your clear pure and Living Waters.  Wash away this demon from us and lead us into your way of salvation once again, for we pray in the All Powerful and Holy Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer.  Amen and Amen.

Let all of God’s people say, “Amen!”
