“Beware the Ides of March!”

“Trump:  Bully, Liar, Sexual Opportunist, Narcissist!   President???”

March 17-18, 2018

Beware the Ides of March!”  This is a phrase now made famous by Shakespeare’s play, “Julius Caesar” which seems apropos for this week in our nation’s capital.  Not only has Trump gone from tirade to tirade, tweeting his instability all over the internet…he has discovered this is the season for firing and hiring.  There has been more firing than hiring.  The last firing yesterday is former Deputy Directory of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Attorney Andy McCabe.

Trump gleefully rejoiced that McCabe’s firing came 26 hours before he might collect his full retirement pension.  A congressman hired him today, so he could retire without any loss.  Ask me once, ask me twice and the conclusion is still the same:  Trump is a bully!  He seems to enjoy exercising the power of the Presidency by firing whomever he likes whenever he wishes to do it.  In the middle of the night Trump sends a tweet and another official is fired.  Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson found out when he stepped off the plane at the end of a diplomatic mission.  FBI Director Comey was in the middle of a meeting talking when an aide slipped him a piece of paper telling him he had been fired.  And the story goes on and on.  Is it nine who have been fired, resigned or let go?  No, that is the apparent number of Russian ex patriots whom Putin has had killed for crossing him.  Trump doesn’t kill anyone yet, but he does trash them online and in the public arena, seeking to destroy their reputation.  He disposes of people he dislikes like pawns on a chessboard.  When he doesn’t like the way the game is going against the narrative he has concocted for himself, he gets rid of the irritating critic, throws out the board and restarts the game with new rules designed to help him look better and if possible, win the game.

But what does Trump win?  Only a reputation for more chaos, moral turpitude and stupidity!  Joe Biden, former Vice President of the United States, was photographed this week bending down talking to a homeless veteran, helping this servant of our country by showing him compassion and humanity.  President Trump has never been photographed bending down to help anyone, but he has been photographed in carefully choreographed settings designed to enhance his own reputation.  If he has ever shown compassion to anyone, I have yet to witness this act.

We all know our President is a liar.  He has lied about the ratings of his former TV show, “The Apprentice.”  He lied and made up facts regarding the US trade deficit with Canada, when meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, admitting finally he simply “made it all up.”  As to how many more lies he has told about Russia and his financial arrangements with President Putin, we can only guess.  He is a liar, none the less.  The question now, does this man ever tell the truth?  If he should do so, how would we ever know?  The truth he knows is only what occurs in his narcissistic brain.  The reality he makes is a non-reality, his own “fake news”, except he seems to actually believe his own version of the truth.  Is this a new definition of “psychopathology?”

I hesitate to call Trump a sexual predator, but he is certainly a sexual opportunist.  With his money, power and position, he has certainly propositioned multiple women, many of whom have tried to speak out about this.  The latest story comes from “Stormy Daniels,” the porn star whom he is suing now for $22 million for talking about their sexual affair.  It is apparently embarrassing to this President since it occurred around the same time he was marrying his third wife, Melania, and she possibly pregnant with his son.

The subject of Trump’s narcissism is well known.  There is no reason to beat this horse anymore.  Let’s just agree this is true and move on.  Trump’s narcissism, however, does bring up the corollary question as to whether he is fit emotionally to be the President of the United States.  His behavior has now become so predictable, enemies of the state could easily bait him and lead him along like a bull with a ring in its nose.  In a real crisis, can this president who has no checks and balances be trusted to make the appropriate choice?  Will the choice be “what is good for the nation” or “what is better for Donald Trump?”  This is a real concern, as the President of the United States is supposed to be the representative for all US Citizens and their children.  If this man is not to be trusted in the simple things, how can we trust him if he brings us into a nuclear war?

The essential question of this day is this:  How did a man with so many character flaws come to occupy our American White House?  You tell me, for I am even today quite mystified. How could a man with this many character flaws inhabit the White House of the United States of America?  As one retired CIA director John O Brennan said in so many words, President Trump is the real danger to our democracy:

“When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history.  You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but you will not destroy America…America will triumph over you.”  Twitter.com/realdonaldtrump… 8:001m March 17, 2018) (quoted from BBC News, March 18, 2018)

“Beware the ides of March!” “Beware!”  My dear friend, you have now been duly warned!

Let us say a special prayer today for Andy McCabe and our nation.  Andy is the only the latest American citizen to be abused and bullied by this President, who knows nothing above US governance, but a lot about saving his own hide.

Even as this article is penned Trump continues his tirade against the rule of law, demanding the Russia investigation be stopped.  We can know one thing from this only, Special Prosecutor of the State Robert Mueller must be getting very close to the truth of this whole matter.  Will this truth when finally known blow the lid off President Trump’s illegal activities, and other members of his family?    Will money laundering in the Trump Corporation be the only charge or much, much more than this?  God help us just now!  God help us, all!

Lord Jesus, Lamb of God, who loves and cares for all the world and for all of us, we are reminded today on this Sabbath of worship that You alone have the power and ability to save us from ourselves and our pervasive unrighteousness and sin. You alone know all things, both the ending and the beginning! Have mercy upon us, O Lord, and save us and this nation.  We do not wish to end our lives nor that of our nation in the dustbin of history because we failed to stand for that which is right and for that which is good and true for all people and for your kingdom in heaven and on earth.  Let only the truth of your gospel prevail!  Let all other things which hinder your word of righteousness and peace be blown away by the Gracious Powerful Wind of your Holy Spirit!  Let your name be glorified on this earth as it is in heaven.  Separate now the wheat from the chaff in the government of this nation as you do even in our own lives, in your love celebrating truth and integrity, goodness and compassion, by purging the dross away.  In your most holy name, Our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit we make this prayer, through Jesus Christ our Lord and only Redeemer.  Amen and Amen.”

Bill W.

The voice of one man crying in this wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a highway for our God, in and through Jesus Christ the Lord!”

“Amen and Amen!”

Let all of God’s people say, “Amen!”

“Amen!  We praise you, Lord Jesus Christ!”
