“The End of a Presidency”

The erosion of the presidency of Donald Trump from the first day is evident, but of late the acceleration of the steady “drip, drip, drip” of damaging and revelatory material keeps on coming!  President Trump’s latest tweets in the past 24 hours show a man increasingly desperate to write a revision of past statements and past news.  He has become the best source of providing his own material for “the obstruction of justice” claim against him and his presidency.  While his lawyer says the president cannot be charged with “obstruction of justice” since by nature of his office he cannot commit it, this ludicrous claim will soon be proven to be patently untrue.  In a democracy, even the President is not above the law.  While he may not technically be charged in a court of law while still president, he can indeed be impeached by the House of Representatives as all presidents before him have been subject to their oversight.  There is NO ONE WHO IS ABOVE THE LAW in a society which is governed by law, otherwise there is no law and no justice for all.  If anyone is found to live above the law in a just and law abiding society as ours, then the law for all becomes a meaningless word.  Either the law of our governing society is for all or it is for none!  Such is the principal of democratic government.  The stupidity of claiming this President, or any other president before or afterward cannot be prosecuted for wrong doing is a claim so far beyond the realm of common sense and common jurisprudence as to be untenable!

Now that the Republican House of Representatives and the U.S Senate have reached agreement to move forward on the one piece of legislation truly essential to the Republican big money donors, that is tax reform, even though it has been passed in one of the most convoluted and pitiful acts of deliberative governing since the founding of the nation, with only Republicans voting in favor, there is no reason to keep this defective President any longer!  He has finally served the purpose for which he was elected by those who have sold their soul to the devil in exchange for lower taxes.  This is the last gasp of a party desperate to find relevance in a modern democratic society which is changing so fast beneath their feet they cannot realize the consequences of their abandonment of over 50% of their nation.  Forget about the poor, the middle class, and the common working man.  Forget about most women, the minority blacks, Hispanics and the American Indian.  Forget about the mentally ill, those who still have no health insurance, the working poor.  Forget about climate change, global warming, and natural disasters across the planet.  Forget about clean air, clean water, and clean energy.  Forget about common decency, the social contract once called America, and the rights of immigrants, legal and illegal.  Forget about justice, righteous and truth.

Instead, celebrate a bill passing wealth on to the wealthy, adding a trillion and a half dollars to the deficit, in which corporations no longer pay taxes on money earned overseas, in which not even a small bone is thrown to the working poor, but with amendment piled on top of amendment the greatest shift of wealth from the poor and the middle class to the ultra-wealthy, the top 1% of all income earners has finally occurred.  “Trickle down, trickle down, trickle down, trickle-down economics” is again proclaimed throughout the land!  How many people will starve waiting for a crumb to fall from the rich man’s table?

All this was accomplished in a few weeks, with no public hearings, no consensus statement, and no input from any Democratic senator or congressman!  So we can legitimately place all the blame for this piece of legislation at the feet of Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and the current President of the United States! “He who shall not be named” has reached the ascendancy of his power… and the beginning of his demise!  As the god of Greek mythology, Icarus, whose wings of feathers and wax melted when he flew too close to the sun, so this President is beginning his descent into the labyrinth, to join his father King Minos, imprisoned within the walls of his own invention, his own lying words!

This past year has been a lesson in bad government, bad policies and even worse politics.  The political drama which has come from this president and his minions is so remarkably bad, “it stinketh!”   This presidency will surely become noteworthy in the history of this great nation for the worst period of political governance ever to be foisted on an unknowing, uninformed public!

At some point, this nation will need to relieve itself and either belch or defecate to rid itself of this year long sickness.  If I had sat down to write about the worst year ever known in politics for this great nation, I could not ever have imagined anything as bad as this!  My only prayer for this Congress and this President is that they both be remembered in history as finally obtaining what they deserve, notoriety as the worst governmental body to have existed on the face of this planet!  Only Nero’s Rome could be worse than this, the antichrist trying to rise again from the grave! If President Trump succeeds in declaring Jerusalem the capital of state of Israel and proceeds to try and move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem too, we will know the end times has begun!  Perhaps that is why our God has allowed such a moron to sit in the chair of our Presidency, simply to usher in the times of the end of days.  I suppose in this case my conservative Christian brethren finally get the answer to their prayers.  But in this case the Rapture never came and God has left us to muddle through this awful mess with no one to unite us and no one left to help us!  We have no Superman or Supergirl!  God help us!  God help us all!

We collectively now pray in the name of Jesus Christ the only Son of God of God who became a human being and in the name of God our Father,  through the Blessed Holy Spirit of God the Father and God the Son, “O Lord, help us, O Lord, help us all!”

“Hear this our prayer, O Lord, and come to help us in this time!  “Save us, Lord Jesus!”  “Maranatha!”  “Come quickly, Lord Jesus Christ!”  “Come quickly!”

“Amen and Amen!”  Let all of God’s people say, “Amen!”

“Amen!  We praise you, Lord Jesus Christ!”

The voice of one crying in this wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a  highway for our God!”
