“Go Away, Mr. President!”
Today marks a new low for the President of our country. Calling NFL players “sons of bitches” simply because they refuse to acknowledge your leadership and your alt-right political agenda is about as low as any President can go! We are talking gutter politics. We are talking about something so demoralizing as to cause the children of this nation to wonder what kind of nation we really are! We now know it is possible in the United States of America to elect a racial bigot, a sexual predator and an extreme narcissist all at the same time! When this President pulls the trigger on nuclear war with North Korea, we will know then he is a mad man, too.
Some body tell me how we got to this place in our nations story! How did we go from being a country working hard for civil rights, the assimilation of many peoples from many places around our planet to a nation so divided we no longer talk about any of the good things we all share. Instead our nightly news is filled with statements by this President which are so appalling, so demeaning, and so utterly ridiculous as to make the entire nation cringe. The 10,000 who whooped and hollered in Alabama the other night do not represent America. Perhaps they represent descendants of the Ku Klux Klan, who years ago were known to harbor hatred and bigotry in places like Birmingham and Selma, Alabama. Perhaps they long for the days of the racist governor George Wallace before he was shot in the back and changed into a good and decent hearted man by the grace of Almighty God.
President Trump seems intent to provoke, provoke, provoke as supposedly shaming his so-called enemies. Unfortunately many of his so-called enemies are citizens of his own nation! Perhaps fortunately his comments united players all across the NFL, who daily play with persons from backgrounds not like their own and often find friendships among the ranks of their teammates.
One has to wonder what a President hopes to accomplish by his brutish behavior and his ill-chosen provocative words! If his is developing early dementia and I have heard this mentioned on several occasions across the media, then perhaps he might be forgiven for the loss of his frontal lobe. And yet, his personal physician has not raised the specter of incompetency. No one in Washington, DC yet considers him insane. He has descended to the level of governing of Kim Jon Yong of North Korea and proven himself to be a true bully with his exchange of insults across the water. One must ask this question: “What is our President trying to accomplish by such rhetoric?” The free world of democratic nations is not build on threatening tweets and cursing words!
In the time before now when genuine political dialogue occurred and when politicians still remembered civility and decorum of office and generally sought to uphold the highest offices in the nation is a way that engendered respect, even from those who worked the other aisle against them—in those days, there was high drama, intrigue and scandals in Washington. However, I do remember a time when some senators carried a great deal of respect across the whole nation and behaved in a manner worthy of the US Senate and all our people!
What if this President, called Trump, sincerely tries to rally this nation for war? Is there anyone at all who will follow him? What happens when the person occupying the highest office in the land is himself guilty of treason? For all we know now, his own family colluded with the Russians, made some kind of financial deal and helped get Trump elected. We just don’t know what occurred. Since we don’t know, we then are called to judge the President on his leadership abilities, his manner of administration and governance and upon how he represents all the people, not just a few who happen to be of the white race. If this is our way of judging his leadership, then he fails every test. This means when he issues a call for national unity and support against an enemy foreign or domestic, no one who might have followed a genuinely good President will go to follow him. Like the NFL teams who chose to boycott their visit to the White House, we will tell him to “go to hell” just as he has done to so many of his constituents! I, for one, will not follow him anywhere or anytime. I would, however, celebrate if he left office and resigned! This president is such a bad as a leader of the free nations, we can hope for a day when he will finally be gone!
This nation, whom I love as my own soul, whom my father and grandfather both went into the armed services to defend, will rue the day that Donald Trump was elected President! When this president was elected, President Barak Obama called his administration “the age of the comma,” indicating how irrelevant Trump would ultimately be in the political life of this nation. For myself, I called him “a parenthesis” in the sentence of our nation, which could be left out without changing the meaning of the sentence. Today we need simply to remove this parenthesis of his administration for the health of our nation. President Trump is not worthy of this high office, and while I wish him no personal harm, I do hope and pray his entire political agenda will be erased and soon forgotten and overcome by the goodness of our nation.
I predict the day will come when we will treat President Trump as an unfortunate time of indigestion for our country. When we can finally belch and pass gas out the rear we will be able to wish this man a most-welcome good-bye! We can only hope the bad odor of his presence will not linger too long in the atmosphere of our room.
“Go away, Mr. President!” We have already had too much of you! “Go away, Mr. President!” Then we can bring in the air freshener and cleanse the odor from the White House! “Go away, Mr. President!” We don’t care where you chose to go, just “Go Away!”
