“Ding Dong, The Wicked Witch is Dead!”
Today, for a little while, across the land a great sigh of relief was heard when it was announced the Republican/Trump Administration plan to “bury Obamacare” fell apart in the Senate. Carefully orchestrated by Mitch McConnell, Senator from Kentucky, whose citizens benefited greatly from the expansion of Medicaid, his crafted bill was not affirmed, neither by the Republican Senate nor by those Republicans who actually voted for President Trump. Per reports on tonight’s evening news (July 18, 2017) only 15% of Republicans who voted for Trump actually supported Mitch McConnell’s bill!
(Spoiler alert!) While across the whole land of the United States of America celebrations were breaking out celebrating the defeat of McConnell’s bill to dismantle healthcare in this country, President Trump announces simply “We will not own Obamacare. We will simply let is die its own death.” “The Republicans will not own this bill.” So what our non–beloved President has said, “Screw over the 23 million US citizens who will lose their healthcare! I, as President, and the whole Republican Party care nothing for the people affected by the withdrawal of health care services, or the chaos introduced by my statement now affecting the health care markets for all Americans. What we do care about is the failure of our political agenda and the fact we have passed only one act of legislation in my first 6 months as President.”
Talk about hubris! Talk about extreme narcissism! Talk about a man unfit to serve in the office of the President! Talk about one of the worst Presidents to ever inhabit this sacred office! Talk about a man who knows nothing about governance, or consensus, or compromise for the sake of the greater good! Talk about a man whose only claim to fame is his ability to be on reality TV! Talk about a human being who lacks even the most basic compassion!
In all my entire life, I have never witnessed a more sorry spectacle of governance than what I have witnessed today! Is there anyone in this whole of America who has any anointing from God for governance?
What can be done? Is there any way out of the quagmire we now call Washington, DC? If we ever were the greatest country in the world, we have fallen far off our pedestal! Who in their right mind would ever trust this President and this Republican Congress of the United States of America? I am ashamed to say, I actually voted in good conscience for a few of these people.
I do like John McCain’s statement (Senator from Arizona) who called today for sitting down with Democrats for discussion and talks on health care. “Do it the old fashioned way!” he remarked in so many words. John McCain, beloved Senator and Vietnam War hero actually believes it is possible for Washington, DC, to once again govern itself and as a result also govern the rest of this wonderful country! I support him! Let him be President for a day! I suspect a man of his integrity and political skill could accomplish more in one day than President Trump for all his bombastic rhetoric has done in a hundred [days]! Would to God, we had more representatives in Congress like John McCain! I salute this man, one of the few remaining representatives of the people with true courage and integrity!
A Prayer for our Nation:
O God, our God and Savior of all humanity, hear all who turn to Thee for help, guidance, wisdom, sustenance and grace. Hear our collective prayers and give us good leadership for our nation. Give us those whom we can respect and follow. We are like sheep cast from the fold! The poor, the downtrodden, those with no health care and those about to lose their health care have no voice, no spokesman, and no representatives to defend their cause. You have told us that you are on the side of the widow and the defenseless. O God, the rich and the powerful have arrayed themselves against the people of the land. They are taken high places in government in order to enrich themselves, while at the same time ignoring the cries of those who placed them there. Will you not hear? Will you not understand their cries of anguish and defeat? Will you not hear the groans of their impoverishment as they seek only the basic bread of life? Others eat and are full! Others grow fat like cows feasting on the finest grasslands. Yet they care nothing for those who are without!
Remember, O Lord our Savior, those who cry unto Thee for help and sustenance of life! Remember those who are being trod upon by those who hold seats of power in this nation. O Lord, we cry out for justice and for mercy, for mercy upon those who have been impoverished, disenfranchised, abandoned! We cry out for justice to be served on those who oppress the poor!
Remember, 0 Lord Jesus, how you reached out your hand to touch and heal the sick, how you fed the hungry, how you walked among the poorest of the land. Remember how you opposed the money changers who inhabited the temple of God. Remember how you cast out those who oppressed your children, your little lambs who came simply to worship you! Remember, O Lord, how the rich and the powerful conspired to crucify you on the tree of Calvary. Remind those for whom you died! Help us to remember from whence we have come and help us acknowledge who gives each of us the very breath of life!
O Lord hear and remember your little ones. Cast down all who hinder your will in this earth, and raise up those who will truly advocate and speak for the people of this land. Scatter the rich and the powerful as you scatter stones preventing the growth of your grain in the fields of your harvest. Make this land, our land fertile, abundant and free!
Free us from this oppression of the powerful and bring again the true light of day! For we pray collectively in the name and by the power of our resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Lord of all the earth, who rules and over rules in the affairs of the children of men, who hears the cry of the poor, the disenfranchised, the lame, the blind, those sick unto death and those ill with bodily infirmities. Scatter the oppressors, O Lord, and let your children go free. Give us once again good governance in our nation and for all your people everywhere, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, Redeemer and Friend, to whom be all glory, honor, dominion and power, both now and forevermore! Amen!
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a highway for our God!
“Amen and Amen!”
