“The Coronation of Donald Trump”

Nov 9, 2016 – Day After Election Day

In a pure democracy it is often stated for those who vote, “Voters get what they want and also what they deserve!”

So we see today, on the morning of Trump’s coronation.  The media with previously eschewed him, now fawning to understand him and his new agenda.  I, for one, am totally disgusted at the electorate and their choice of a president.  As the protestors in Oregon said today so eloquently, “Not my president; he is not my president!”  So I join the chorus of those protesting his presidency.  I predict failure, chaos and doom.

But for those who elected this so called “Savior” of the American economy and way of life, may you get what you voted for and what you deserve!  When this president fails, and he will fail to “meet your expectations”, remember you elected him, not I.

I do not offer him any allegiance, any mark of support, or even any prayer.  As far as I am concerned, he is a warty lesion on our grand American democracy.  I do not intend to support him, and hope to find ways to actively oppose his agenda at every turn.

Have we ever had a more radically divided electorate or a more sorely divided country?!  When the small modicum of ‘good will’ evaporates will this country even be governable?  We have elected a populous “pig in a poke”, as my grandfather would say.  We don’t know what we have just bought!  You can paint lipstick on a pig, but at the end of the day it is still a pig, with lipstick.

They type of America which Donald Trump preaches and hopes to recover existed in the 1950s, in the brief hiatus after WWII, when the US truly dominated world politics.  America was great then because no one else existed to oppose it, until the Soviet Union developed their own nuclear arsenal.

The world we now live in is radically different, multi-cultural, and connected on so many levels it cannot easily be disconnected without both trauma and pain, destructive pain.  If Trump attempts to isolate the USA from the rest of the world as he proposes, in order to restore jobs and more jobs, he will ultimately fail and even worse, will wreck the world cooperative economy as we know it today, with multinational trade alliances carefully nuanced over the past 40 years.

The abandonment of the Nafta, the Pacific Alliance, the European Union relationship and that special relationship with Great Britain, in favor of more cooperation with Putin of Russia and then adding tariffs of 40% on China will certainly not enhance the USA’s position in the world.  Instead, it will undermine it.

The forsaking of the World Climate Accords, will plunge us all into a worsening future of cataclysmic weather events such as the world has never seen.

This is what I mean when I say I will oppose the Trump agenda at every turn.  His agenda is a truly backward looking, non-thoughtful, non-reflective and divisive way of life for this nation.  We have been the hope and beacon of the world for democracy, but now led by an admitted abuser of women, who jokes about groping women’s genitals because “he is famous”.  Like all dictators and emperors, his coronation only spells a new misery for the poor, the disenfranchised and those outside the sphere of his concern.  He is a president, but only for under-educated white American men and women who have no more sense than to vote for him.  He is not my president and I do not acknowledge him as such.

I have said it once, I will say it again, “I spit on Trump and all he represents for America!”  He is not my president, I will not recognize him, nor support him.  I will, however, pray for him. As far as I am concerned he is “Anathema to God and to this nation!”

In the purgatory which he is creating before our eyes, I will pray for the lost, the dying, the ill, the fearful and all who are afraid and so afraid they had no better sense than to vote for him.  50 million souls voted against this man.  50 million voted for him, more or less.  You tell me how he will bring the 50 million Americans outside into the foal, particularly when we all have no intention of joining him there!  Tell me, my friend, how will you fix this unfixable division, so broad, so wide and so deep, as to be unfathomable?

So in our democracy, half of us voted for the man and the other half voted against him.  He was elected, but by the thinnest of margins.  There is no mandate, only a pure grab for power!  As my daughter so eloquently said, “We have elected our own Hitler, just like Germany in the 1930s.”

You will say, “My, you are so eloquent in defeat, would you have been as kind to Mrs. Clinton?”  Yes, I would have been equally as kind to her, for at least she had the idea of an America which included everyone.  Trump mouths the words, but he has no intention of doing them.  “I spit on Trump and all he represents to America!”

Twenty years from now, when we have finally moved beyond this debacle in American life, if indeed the world still is standing at that time, we will realize just what we the American citizens have done to this nation and its citizens.  In this election, we have been given exactly what we wanted and exactly what we deserved!  May God have mercy on us!  May God have mercy on our souls, in the name of the Father, Son and of the Holy Spirit.   Amen and Amen.

A Voice Crying in this Wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a highway for our God!”  In the name of Jesus Christ the only Lord and Savior of us all!  “Amen and Amen!”
