“Disappointment”
January 27, 2017
Disappointment. Sorrow. Sadness: three words which hold this week together and Donald Trump. I will not address this man as President. I have no respect for him or for him in the office. In less than seven days, invective after invective placed upon the backs of the American citizens, grinding us down, into the depths of a new slavery. Invective #1 – repeal the Affordable Care Act – Invective # 13 – demonize all Muslim citizens as potential terrorists. Can it get any worse? Some are afraid to speak against you, Mr. Trump. I am not afraid. For I know the One who holds all power, and before him, you are only animated dust!
Interestingly, the congress (is this our congress?) has voted on nothing. All we are given in this so-called democracy are Donald Trump’s executive decrees, and his invectives, a new rule of madness by a man who is more dictator than president. He rules by fiat. When President Barack Obama gave an executive order he saved millions from deportation, in the hope Congress would act on immigration reform, an act of human kindness for a great nation. When Donald Trump issues his decrees, they hurt someone, make others angry, and others still more afraid. Our Mexican laborers are now mocking Trump—“Let him build a wall, and we shall build a tunnel!” So they ask: “Who does he think actually does the work that makes America great?”
Trump’s latest invective: Now Mexico will pay for Trump’s wall with a 20% tariff, but from whose pocket? Even an idiot knows that tariffs are paid for by the American consumer. You are a wealthy man, Mr. Trump. Will you personally pay tariffs for me?
As of today, persons who helped the USA in wars across the Middle East find their visas to immigrate to the USA are now in jeopardy. These are our friends, Mr. Trump, who helped us against our enemies in recent wars. Are our friends not welcomed, Mr. Trump? In one week you have destroyed more than others like you have built in a lifetime. Fifty years of democratic ideals are taken away with the swipe of your executive pen! You smile and walk pompously around, so all can see you. We know this is all about your ego, your belief in the rightness of you. Are you ever wrong, Mr. Trump? Have you ever apologized for any wrongs you have done? May God help you, Mr. Trump! You have no idea of what you are doing.
The Statue of Liberty stands even now in New York Harbor to welcome the masses of refugees who have come to this nation is search of hope and a new life in a new world. You have closed our borders to refugees from foreign lands. Are we not all in some respect refugees from some other place? If you have been born in Somalia, you might yourself be a refugee. But you have taken to yourself the role “entitled one”. Go on, Mr. Trump, why not knock down the torch off Miss Liberty? You have already extinguished her light! You have destroyed her dreams! Of what purpose now is her lonely arm, when her beacon fails to welcome anyone?
I prepare now a dirge of sorrow for this nation, as Jeremiah wept over his nation in its time. You have finally given our enemies the key they needed to destroy us. You have taken away the dreams of the peoples of the world. It is these dreams which you are destroying one by one, which have protected us since the beginning of this nation. We were the beacon of hope, the place which welcomed refugees fleeing tyranny. We held in check the evil tendencies of dictators and madmen who lusted for power more than they cared for their own peoples. We offered sanctuary to those fleeing from terror and war.
In seven days you have removed all these things from us! In seven days, God made all the earth and the heavens, and God said when he rested on the seventh day, “Behold it is very good!” In seven days, you as the new devil have deconstructed our beautiful world. You have extinguished the sun and the moon. The stars no longer shine in the night. The garden is ravaged, and the animals killed. The first couple presides over a desolate place where wolves and jackals feed on the souls of the dead. We are now no different from our sworn enemies. There is no freedom left for us to fight for. There is no more reason to die for liberty and justice for all. You have destroyed freedom. You have chased liberty away. Justice is now only a fading memory of a slowly dying man.
Oh, such dying sorrow! Our enemies are coming to destroy us. They will rape our land and burn it with a vengeful fire! They will say as they watch from a distance: “Here is America’s greatness! Here is God’s vengeance upon a land which held so much promise, but whose promise was taken away. The name of Donald Trump will live in that day as a name to be used in cursing, a swear word, a word which reminds all of what it means to be ground down into poverty, to have freedoms destroyed, to have shackles made that imprison us all.
Mr. Trump will make a lot of steel. He will build a wall in which to enclose America. He calls it a wall to keep everyone undesirable out. But a wall also keeps everyone who lives inside within its prison bounds! Donald Trump is making for us a prison. Walls of iron and steel and concrete with razor wire surround prisons. Donald says, “Let us build ourselves a prison”. It will enclose all of us in a very small space. The world is large, its peoples are many and beautiful. But we Americans will not see it, because there is a great wall between us and them.
The Soviet Union once built a wall in Europe to divide its peoples. They imprisoned themselves in their ancient ideology. Gulags were built where those who dissented could be sent to rot and die. Mr. Trump, will you build a gulag for persons like me? I will never accept you as my president. I will actively work against everything you do. You will deem me your sworn enemy. What wall will you build to stop me and my dissenting words?
My words are like birds which fly above walls. Birds recognize no boundaries, but they fly wherever truth is welcomed and freedoms enjoyed. Even if you build a wall to the heavens, it will not be high enough, for I and my words will fly over it. We will soar on our wings as eagles; my words will run and never be weary; they will walk and not faint. Truth is never bound, even by dictators who spew out invectives, or builds walls and bigger prisons. Truth will find its way out, for truth endears itself to the heart of any man and any woman who seeks for it day after day.
The Day of the Lord cometh and the Lord’s Day is coming for you and for all like you who seek to enslave, to destroy, to fill with fear, or kill righteous men and women. Take a lesson from the Jewish Holocaust. The voices of the millions cry out against you! Though, as a new Hitler you arise and shake your fist at God most High, God remembers you are dust and the winds of heaven will soon come and blow your dust and all your invectives away!
Be warned, Mr. Trump, you who think you are something when you are nothing. The wind is always stronger than the dust! You are stirring up the wind of God. God’s wind is coming quickly to blow you into the realm of nothingness. In the name of God in Christ our Savior and Redeemer of us all. Amen.
Let all of God’s people say, “Amen!” We praise you, Lord Jesus Christ! We recognize you only as Lord and Savior of us all, Christians, Moslems, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian and Hindus, all other religious minorities and persons with no religion whatsoever. You are the Lord of all peoples, even those who do not yet know how to call upon your name. You are our Lord, our Savior and our God! Hear us, O Lord, when we pray for our nation. Give us good leadership again, leaders we can trust and believe and celebrate, leaders who recognize and believe in the values of love for all, justice for all, benevolence for all. Cleanse away all who oppose your Lordship on this earth! May they become as dust before You, O God, and before your Holy Word! Purge the world of this evil with your holy, cleansing fire, that we may bow down and worship You alone, O Yahweh, the Great I AM, who was, who is and who is to come. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen and Amen.
A Voice of One Crying in the wilderness, “Make straight in this desert a highway for our God!”, by God’s grace and mercies, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
